Like any good neighbor, Tashman’s has been there since 1961

Quality. Honesty. Value. Those three words easily sum up the Tashman family business,

Tashman Home Center. The family-owned business in West Hollywood has offered high quality products and true customer service from the first day Mark Tashman opened his store on Santa Monica Boulevard in 1961. Now Mark’s son, Kenny, is at the helm. For 52 years, the family business has catered to the needs of West Hollywood’s residents, offering screen installation and a small hardware store in the beginning, to an expansive installation company with a full service hardware store.

“Tashman’s Screens” opened with a $1,000 loan from the Jewish Federation and over the years, Kenny and his father worked hard to build it into the successful and profitable business it is today.

“They had one rake, one hose. It was definitely a little hardware store,” Kenny Tashman said.

In 1970, Tashman’s Screens moved across the street to their current location at 7769 Santa Monica Blvd. and became Tashman’s Hardware and Screens, expanding their inventory of hardware and tools.

“I care about my neighborhood a lot,” he said. “We live and work is the same place. The people that shop here are my neighbors and I want them to be successful.”

Supporting the local community is important to Tashman, who often donate to nearby religious schools.

Tashman’s operates a full contracting service, installing windows, doors, screens, shower doors and security systems. They employ their own crew and do the work themselves, installing high quality products that are guaranteed to last.

“What sets us apart truly is that we do installations and we do it well,” Tashman said. “You don’t have to worry about it. You call us and we’ll fix it.”

They also strive to maintain the architectural integrity of people’s homes.

“If you have a an old, beautiful Spanish home, I’m not going to stick an aluminum window in it,” Tashman said. “I’m going to fix it with the original (style) window and make it beautiful again.”

Tashman emphasizes quality in his business, and strives to ensure that his customers are completely satisfied with the end result.

That attention to detail and quality is what keeps the customers returning to the store. Tashman’s has built up a loyal customer base, with generations of families turning to Tashman Home Center.

“I have many customers that were at my bar mitzvah that I’ve known for 20 or 30 years at least,” Tashman said. “That’s one of the best things about my business, I love to know my customers.”
