Flowers were placed Thursday at the Hollywood Walk of Fame star of syndicated advice columnist “Dear Abby” — whose real name is Pauline Phillips — after she passed away on Jan. 16 at the age of 94. Phillips started the “Dear Abby” column in 1956 using the pen name Abigail Van Buren. She offered advice to readers on everything from marital problems and family issues to AIDS awareness and equal rights. Phillips died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Her daughter, Jeanne Phillips, has authored the “Dear Abby” column for more than a decade after taking over for her mother. “Dear Abby’s” star is located at 7000 Hollywood Blvd., in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
