A 20-year-old suspect who admitted to shooting at a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter in 2011 was sentenced on Oct. 10 to 25 years in prison.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Martin Herscovitz sentenced Danny Anthony Lopez, who was 18 at the time of the incident. Lopez pleaded no contest in August to two counts of assault on a peace officer with a firearm, said Deputy District Attorney Michael Blake, with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office’s Crimes Against Peace Officers unit.
Lopez admitted firing at the police helicopter on April 11, 2011, striking it and forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing at Van Nuys Airport. No one was injured.
