A national restaurateur was arraigned on Wednesday on four counts of attempted, willful and premeditated murder after he allegedly tried to induce a miscarriage of his then-girlfriend in 2009, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Joshua Woodward, co-owner of the former Table 8 restaurants in Los Angeles and South Beach, surrendered himself to Superior Court Judge Shelly Torrealba and pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at $4 million.

The Florida resident is charged with trying to induce a miscarriage on four separate occasions between Sept. 15, 2009, and Oct. 25, 2009, by using misoprostol, a drug used in the medical community to induce labor and terminate early stage pregnancies.

If convicted, he faces up to life in state prison.
