A 72-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed his ex-wife and then committed suicide early Monday in a residence in the 1000 block of South Lucerne Boulevard has been identified as Edward Kim.

Lt. Fred Corral, of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, said authorities are not releasing the name of the 52-year-old ex-wife pending notification of next of kin, a process that would likely take a few days. Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Richard French said officers responded around 2 a.m. to the residence near Lucerne and Olympic boulevards after gunshots were reported by neighbors. Both Kim and his ex-wife were pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators reportedly located a gun and a note inside the residence. French added that it was unclear what prompted the murder/suicide, other than investigators determined the two victims had been involved in a dispute before the shooting.
