Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson’s son, Justin Wesson, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after being stopped at a sobriety checkpoint on Sept. 22.
Wesson, 30, who is a member of the council president’s staff, was taken into custody around 8:15 p.m. near the intersection of 9th and Figueroa streets. He was released the following day, and the results of a blood alcohol test are still pending, according Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.
Edward Johnson, a spokesman for Herb Wesson, provided a statement issued by the council president, and said no further comments would be made about the matter.
“Drinking and driving is against the law. I’m grateful that no one was injured,” Herb Wesson said. “He was driving his own car. Within the office, appropriate action will be taken.”
An arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 18 in the Metropolitan Courthouse.
