An 18-year-old mother who allegedly left her two-week-old infant daughter and her 1-year-old son in a locked car to go shopping last week has been with misdemeanor child abuse, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Arely Aide Amaya, of Los Angeles, was arrested last Saturday after police responded to calls that the baby girl and boy were in a locked car with the windows partially rolled down and sweltering heat. Sheriff’s deputies who responded were able to unlock the car and place rescue the children.

Amaya, who had been shopping for a dress at a nearby store, was arrested when she returned to her car.
