Ripley’s Believe It or Not! held the official grand re-opening and ribbon cutting for its renovated attraction on Thursday, when Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge, 4th District, was put in the line of fire by firebreather Ted Shred.

The event was actually more of a sword-cutting celebration, as George the Giant swallowed a sword that was removed by a reluctant LaBonge.

It also coincided with Ripley’s unveiling of its $1 million Marilyn Monroe vault, which opened three days before the 50th anniversary of her death. The vault, an actual Bank of America vault that was salvaged when Ripley’s took occupancy of the building, houses various pieces of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia.
