Well-wishers celebrated Brother Patrick Corr’s 98th birthday at St. John of God Retirement and Care Center in West Adams Friday afternoon.
Corr was born in Ireland April 27, 1914 and entered the Brothers of St. John of God order in 1939. He arrived in Los Angeles in 1946 and has worked with the retirement home since. Staff said Corr has been a tireless fundraiser for the center. While his fundraising and visitation work has slowed down, outreach coordinator Arlene De Guzman said Corr still comes into the office every day.
“It’s good for him,” she said. “It gives him energy.”
In Corr’s time with St. John of God, it has grown from one building, several employees and a handful of patients to a complex of five buildings, 300 employees and
nearly 300 residents near the corner of Western Avenue and West Adams Boulevard.
Surrounded by friends and staff wishing him a happy birthday, Corr said, “It’s wonderful. We have accomplished great things (here).”
