A Belgium resident has been arrested for allegedly stalking Esther Povitsky, a 23-year-old comedian from Los Angeles.

Over the course of eight months, Povitsky had been receiving e-mails from the suspect, Pierre Van Lint, 31, whom she had never met, that were becoming increasingly aggressive and inappropriate. Van Lint told Povitsky that he lived in Belgium, and that he intended to travel to Los Angeles to meet her. Since she is in the entertainment industry, she identified the problems with this type of unsolicited attention.

On February 24, 2012, Povitsky received an e-mail stating that Van Lint was in Los Angeles. Povitsky was advised that a person identifying himself as the source of these obsessive emails had come to the Comedy Store in West Hollywood, looking for her.

Fearing for her safety, she filed a report with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station.  Based on information obtained from her e-mails, investigators responded to the Roadway Inn, 6826 Sunset Blvd., to contact and arrest a stalking suspect.

The investigation revealed that Van Lint had been stalking the victim for the past eight months via e-mail from Belgium. Van Lint increased the number of these aggressive e-mails over the last 48 hours. Deputies contacted the suspect and placed him under arrest for stalking. Van Lint was booked at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s International Liaison was notified.

This investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with any information is advised to contact Detective Mike Berbiar at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at (310)855-8850.
