A 35-year-old day-care center operator who pleaded no contest to sexually molesting her 13-year-old god son was sentenced Tuesday to three years in state prison.

Judge Terry Bork sentenced Chelsea McClelland, who operated a day-care facility in South Los Angeles, and ordered her to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.

Investigators from the LAPD’s West Bureau Sexual Assault Detail arrested McClelland last December after they found her having sex with the victim, who had just turned 13, in a van parked near the Santa Monica Freeway and La Brea Avenue. Police responded to the area after neighbors reported suspicious activity.

McClelland pleaded no contest on Aug. 2 to two felony counts of lewd act on a child under 14. The incidents occurred between Dec. 1 and 17.

In exchange for her plea, two additional counts of lewd act on a child were dismissed.
