Brown Makes Gubernatorial Bid Official

By Amy Lyons, 3/02/2010

California Attorney General Jerry Brown formally announced his gubernatorial bid on March 2 in a video outlining his experience.

Noting that he is a lifelong Californian who has held the job of governor in the past, Brown said he has the experience and knowledge to get the job done and “fix” California.

“When I was governor, California added 1.9 million new jobs in eight years,” Brown said. “I know we can do it again.”

Brown has also served as California Secretary of State and Mayor of Oakland. He sought the Democratic nomination for president in 1976, 1980 and 1992.

“We need someone with an insider’s knowledge but an outsider’s mind,” Brown said, adding that, if elected, he would concentrate on downsizing state government. He is the only Democratic contender for governor. Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner are the Republican contenders.
