In an ongoing investigation, Sheriff’s deputies arrested a woman Monday in connection with a March 4 arson at a West Hollywood apartment that officials said was sparked by an argument.
Samantha Scarano, 25, was arrested late Monday afternoon at the Body Shop, a West Hollywood strip club at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Harper Avenue, and booked at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station on a felony charge of attempted murder, sheriff’s officials said. Sheriff’s Sgt. Pauline Panis said she did not know whether Scarano was an employee of the business.
Scarano was arraigned Tuesday morning and a preliminary hearing was continued to March 26, a District Attorney’s office spokeswoman said. She is being held at Century Regional Detention Facility in lieu of $1.25 million bail.
The fire reportedly started shortly before 2 a.m. March 4, when Scarano allegedly broke a window of her ex-roommate’s third-floor, corner apartment at 1422 N. Sweetzer Ave. and lobbed in an open container of lighter fluid and burning paper. The attack allegedly followed an argument between Scarano and her ex-roommate, sheriff’s officials said. It was unclear how recently the two lived together, Panis said Tuesday.
It took Los Angeles County firefighters about 25 minutes to knock down the fire, that “pretty much destroyed the whole apartment,” Fire Department Capt. Mark Savage said.
The blaze reportedly caused about $100,000 damage to the apartment and $200,000 damage to the building, and Savage said Tuesday that water damage to two, second-floor apartments temporarily displaced residents in those apartments. There were no reported injuries.
