Police were still searching Wednesday for the suspect, Alan Lynn Thomas III, 22, who is the biological father of one of the children, a 5-year-old girl. The other two children are 7 years old, and 5 months old, according to Lt. Andy Neiman, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson.

The incident was reported around 12:45 p.m. on March 27 at an apartment in the 6100 block of Eleanor Avenue, one block south of Santa Monica Boulevard, and a half-block east of Vine Street. Thomas allegedly threatened the victim at gunpoint, and she fled the apartment and called police. When authorities arrived, Thomas had already fled with the three children and his whereabouts were unknown. Officers found a shotgun inside the apartment that is believed to be the weapon used in the assault, and a manhunt was initiated in the surrounding neighborhood. Vine Street remained closed between Eleanor Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard until after 4 p.m. while police waited to see if the suspect returned to the apartment.

“He made no threats against the kids,” Neiman said. “We thought he may still be in the area on foot because he doesn’t have a car, but he might have jumped on a bus.”

Det. Kevin Becker, with the LAPD’s Hollywood Division, said police had been in contact with the suspect, and around 8 p.m., the suspect’s mother dropped off the oldest and youngest girls at a fire station in Hollywood. Officers picked them up and took them to the Hollywood police station, where they were reunited with their mother. A couple of hours later, the third girl was dropped off at an undisclosed location and later reunited with her mother.

Becker said Thomas could be charged with assault, but the investigation would be ongoing until he is taken into custody and investigators can determine exactly what occurred.

“Obviously, there is a domestic violence allegation of physical assault,” Becker said. “We want to find him and sort this out.”
