All-Star Cast Appears in Play on Marriage Equality

Actors Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Martin Sheen will come together on Saturday, March 3 for a live staged reading of the play “8”, which chronicles the fight for marriage equality in California and is being held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.

The production is presented by the American Foundation for Equal Rights, and benefits marriage equality efforts for same-sex couples. It features an all-star cast that also includes Kevin Bacon, Jane Lynch, Jamie Lee Curtis, John C. Reilly and many others. The production chronicles the landmark federal trial on Proposition 8, using the actual court transcripts and first-hand interviews. Written by Academy-award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (“Milk” and “J. Edgar”) and directed by Rob Reiner, the sold-out performance can be watched live via the website, Pre-show introductions begin at 7:30 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7:45 p.m. Pitt will portray United States District Judge Vaughn R. Walker, who overturned Prop. 8 by ruling the law was unconstitutional, while Clooney and Sheen will play David Boies and Theodore B. Olson, respectively, the lawyers in the case to get Prop. 8 overturned. The plaintiffs in the case will be portrayed by Matthew Morrison, Matt Bomer. Christine Lahti and Curtis.
