Several celebrities attended, including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Animal, Pepe, Sweetums, Walter, Walt Disney Studios chairman Rich Ross and The Jim Henson Company chief executive officer Lisa Henson.

The star ceremony is another milestone in an adventure that began more than 50 years ago with Kermit’s first television appearance.

“The Muppet Show” began 20 years later in 1976, and the characters became movie stars in 1979 with “The Muppet Movie”, featuring Bob Hope, Cloris Leachman, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor and Paul Williams. Six more films followed.

Tuesday’s event coincided with the DVD release of “The Muppets”.
