CES Claims Martin Used Logo

The Coalition for Economic Survival (CES), a tenants’ rights organization, has accused attorney and West Hollywood city council candidate Steve Martin of misleading voters by using the CES’ logo in promotional material without authorization.

Credited for implementing West Hollywood’s rent control law, CES is claiming that Martin has used their logo, and even misquoted CES executive director Larry Gross, to imply that the organization is endorsing his candidacy, which it does not.

“CES has not now or ever endorsed Steve Martin for anything,” Gross said. “In fact, CES views Martin as a threat to rent control and tenants’ rights based on a long history of positions and action he has taken.”

Multiple calls to Martin for comment were not returned.

The CES’ logo was used on a recent voter mailing sent out by the “Friends of Steve Martin,” and included with a quote that Gross said was fabricated.

“Steve Martin has stooped to outright lying in order to deceive the voters of West Hollywood,” Gross said. “CES is considering legal action it might take against Martin for illegal use of its logo and misrepresentation of the position of its executive director.”

West Hollywood voters will cast their ballots for city council on March 8.
